Sindhu beats Saina in clash of titans
In an exciting battle, Olympic medalist P V Sindhu dominated compatriot Saina Nehwal in a fierce encounter against India's Open Super Series semi-finals here.Sindhu came out winner of his senior pro 21-16 22-20 in the highly anticipated contest to set up a clash with second Korean Sung Ji Hyun in the semifinals tomorrow.
Saina, a bronze medalist at the London Olympics, and Sindhu had already met once in an international competition - at 2014's Syed Modi International - where Saina won a draw.
They had played one against the other in PBL earlier this year with Sindhu having taken over. They had also clashed in the Indian Badminton League in 2013, when Saina emerged victorious.
Earlier in the day, the second head of the Korean team Sung Ji Hyun defeated defending champion Ratchanok Intanon, finishing fifth, 21-16 22-20, while fourth team captain Akane Yamaguchi, Eliminated a challenge from former All England champion Nozomi Okuhara, finished seventh, 21- 13 11-21 21-18 in a all-Japanese contest.
In the men's singles, twice winner, Viktor Axelsen of Denmark won a 19-21 21-14 21-16 victory over Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei to reach the semifinals.
